Roberta Wagner Lee, 91, died of pneumonia on Sunday December 10 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 after 5 pm Wednesday. The family will be present between 5-7 pm.
Roberta was born in Ankeny to the late Rolfe and Clarinda Wagner, early founders of the town of Ankeny and Capital City State Bank in East Des Moines. She moved to Des Moines to attend Roosevelt High School and remained an enthusiastic fan of the city throughout her life, supporting the Symphony, the Playhouse, and the Ballet. She married her husband, the late Richard C. Lee, an advertising and banking executive, in 1934.
Roberta was a gracious homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. Her hobbies included needlepoint, ballroom dancing (at the old Terpsichorian Club) and playing cards. She was a long time member
(and past president) of Chapter HX, PEO, First Methodist Church, the Des Moines Club, and Wakonda Club. Recently she enjoyed membership in WPCI.
She is survived by daughter Linda McAndrew, and son-in-law Bob McAndrew of Staten Island, NY, daughter Judy Lee of Rapid City, SD, two grandsons Patrick McAndrew of Bolton Valley, VT, Kevin McAndrew of Staten Island, NY, a niece, nephew, and several cousins.
