Steven Ray Harvey
Des Moines
Steve Harvey, 68, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3:15 a.m. Steve served 2 years in Vietnam (He left the war, but the war never left him). After completing his time he returned and went to Drill Instructor Academy for the Army. After getting out of the military he went into siding with his father-in-law, which then led into home building where he found his passion. He worked for Clark & Companies for 15 plus years, then to work for Hubbell Homes, and Kimberly Development.
Steve’s biggest joy other his grandchildren was family camping, dragging his smoker to the camp grounds for family functions, and driving his stock cars. One of the biggest joys in his life once a year was being Secret Santa to a family in need.
Steve has left behind to cherish his memories, his best friend and wife, Patty of 46 years; two daughters, Leeanna Harvey and Rhonda Harvey (Steve); two beautiful granddaughters, Alexes Cummings and Brittney Cummings; and one Army Strong Grandson, Noah Harvey; three best friends, Ed Adock, Greg Moore, and Tony Nelson; five sisters; and three brothers.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Hill; and brother, Kenneth Harvey.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at 2:00p.m., Thursday, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

So sorry to hear about Steve's passing Patty. I remember him (and you) coming over to mom and dad's after dad put a hole in the ceiling and you both calling him 'twinkle toes'. I also remember when Shelby was born and Steve making sure the new windows in her room were airtight since a baby would be in the room (her room was the warmest in the house). Praying for you guys during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers to all of you in this difficult time. Steve (dad) was a wonderful man and treated me like one of his own. So many memories camping and when he wanted to scare me so bad haha. I will miss him so much. I am honored to have known such a wonderful, caring, giving man. Hugs to my best friend Leeanna and Rhonda, you both are like a sister to me. Patty, you are definitely a mother figure to me and to Noah, Lex, and Britt... you all were definitely very precious to Steve. I love you all.
