Lawrence "Bud" Courtney, Jr.

Lawrence Guy Courtney, Jr., known as “Bud”, was born February 16, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Lawrence “Bud” Sr. and Shirley (Murdock) Courtney. He passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 61.

Bud served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1973 to 1974, and remained very active in VA activities. He married Jean (Armintrout) Courtney in 1974. He enjoyed crafts and models. His family was very important to him. Bud was a very kind person and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was open-minded and nonjudgmental.

Bud is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Bud III (Deanna); daughter, Mindy (Dan); grandchildren, Ashley, J.T., Nicholas, Paige, Bud IV, and Haylee (Zach); great-grandchildren, Tyree, Kai and Kemani; sisters, Liz and Deb; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence “Bud” Sr. and Shirley Courtney and his siblings, Elaina, Eletta, Roy, Wayne and Kim.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the services.
