Betty Arlene (Wright) Hejda passed away on October 3, 2017.
She was born on August 9th, 1938 to Alvin and Grace Wright of rural Delta, Iowa. Betty was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Delta High School in 1955 at the age of 16, graduating with top honors. She was a high point scorer on the Delta girls six-on-six basketball team.
Betty was a successful secretary for Bernard M. Kirk Insurance Agency and Dr. Koppelman, the Provost at the Osteopathic College. Later on, she found success as owner of Reed’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop in Beaverdale, Iowa.
Betty is survived by husband, Leo; sister, Phyllis De Young; stepsons and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale; and sisters, Dora and Laura Mae.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Betty will be laid to rest at Garrett Cemetery in Delta.

So very sorry of your loss Leo! Also sorry I did not know sooner so I could attend services. She was great mentor to me in both my personal and business life. She believed in me and hired

Sorry to hear about Betty. She and I were best friends in high school. I remember all the good times we had. Although we have not seen each other for a few years my memories of her still remain with me.. So sorry for your loss. Sorry I am unable to attend the services today. My prayers are with you.

While we only knew Betty for a few short years, she always seemed caring, smart and a terrific match for you, Leo. In her last couple weeks I got the feeling she approached the time as did my grandfather years ago, both meeting the end on their own terms in large part. That said, I am not sure that makes it much less difficult for you. My heart goes out to you and Mimi.
