Donald Higdon

Donald Earl Higdon, age 87, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa.

Donald was born July 14, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Irvin and Alice Higdon. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Home Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Shriners. From 1996 to 1997, Donald served as the Grand Royal Patron of the Order of the Amaranth. Donald retired from Firestone after 31 years, then worked at Broadlawns for three years. Family was very important to Donald and he enjoyed spending time with them. Some of his favorite pastimes included riding motorcycles, gardening, and taking part in Masonic activities.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Donna Weesner, grandchildren, Donald Weesner, Kevin Wessner, Angelina Harris and Seth Higdon, ten great-grandchildren, and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Alice Higdon and his son, Dennis.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, October 9, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A graveside service will take place at 1:30 PM, Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, Iowa.
