Service Details

Pauline L. Varce was born December 28, 1918, to George and Clara (Brown) Varce in Moravia, Iowa. She died September 29, 2017, at the Ramsey Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be at First Church of the Nazarene, 4703 Douglas Avenue, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Dumont Cemetery after services.

Pauline was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She lived in many Iowa communities as she taught school, worked for Vocational Rehabilitation of Iowa, and for the Salvation Army – Iowa Division. She spent one year as a missionary teacher in Velarde, New Mexico. Pauline travelled extensively in this country and throughout the world. She was active in her church, Church of the Nazarene, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and organizing programs and trips for Prime Timers. She also enjoyed many programs in the community and faithfully attended the Iowa State Fair as long as she was able. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and enjoyed activities with family and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Artheda Hunter (Vernon), Marjorie Varce and Naomi Varce, and by brother, Paul Varce. Left to mourn her death are brothers, Harold Varce (Virginia) and Don Varce (Irene), sister-in-law, Eleanor Varce, along with nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

Memorial gifts may be given to First Church of the Nazarene, Des Moines.
