Chien Van Cao

Chien was born in Vu Xuyen Thai Binh, Viet Nam on January 19, 1944 to Cao Van Gion and Ha Thi Suoi. He joined the Army of Republic of Vietnam in February 15, 1963 and was later recruited by Military Assistance Command Studies and Observation Group (MACSOG) to be on team Pisces. On July 18, 1964 on a mission to provide reinforcement for team Easy, team Pisces (6 men) parachuted deep behind enemies line in North Vietnam. Team Pisces was ambushed not long after the landing, and the whole team was captured as Prisoners of War (POW) on July 19, 1964. Chien spent the next 20 years as a POW, and was released on January 25, 1984.
Chien married Ha Thi Xuyen on October 30, 1987. Later, he immigrated to Des Moines, Iowa in March 12, 1996. He had a stroke on November 19, 2011 and passed away at 8:04 AM on September 28, 2017.
