Sandra Hess
September 19, 2017
Sandy Hess, 74, passed away September 19, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born March 20, 1943, in Boone, Iowa, to Kenneth and June Lincoln.
Sandy made a career in the insurance industry and worked as a claims specialist for Blue Cross Blue Shield for many years.
Sandy was a true fighter in every sense. Over the years, she endured numerous medical issues, was on kidney dialysis for three years, and was a two-time cancer survivor, but continued to keep a smile on her face through it all.
Sandy will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her selflessness, and loving spirit. She treasured her family and their time spent together, and she loved spoiling her grandchildren every chance she had.
Sandy always enjoyed coming home, propping her feet up and watching T.V. She also enjoyed playing video games and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Gale (Joe) Rivas; grandchildren, Troy Rivas, Shaun (Autum) Rivas, Alicia (Mike) Kingery, and Joseph (Hannah) Rivas; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Bob) Baltzley, Madonna Pilkington, and Nancy Lincoln (Kevin); as well as other loving relatives and many special friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Sandy.
