Dawson Lee Kerr
September 17, 2017
Dawson Lee Kerr, age 21, was taken from this life much too soon on Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dawson was born the son of Dan and Lori Kerr on July 16, 1996 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was also the brother to his two sisters Tallie and Kailey Kerr.
Dawson graduated from Johnston High School in 2015 where he enjoyed being a member of the swim and cross country teams. After graduation Dawson attended the University of Northern Iowa, but his dreams of becoming an entrepreneur led him to Las Vegas, Nevada where he started his own business with his good friend Nicholas Hogan.
Friends and family would describe Dawson as a fun-loving, free spirited, and passionate individual. Dawson is also well-known for his humor and his ability to make anyone laugh or smile. He had a love for politics, and he wasn’t afraid to share his opinion on just about anything. In his free time and over the summers Dawson spent his time lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, and canoeing. Family was very important to him and he loved traveling with his parents and sisters, recently all 5 of them went on a summer trip to New York City as well as many other fun trips in the past. He also had a love for hanging out with cousins and family members during holidays and special events. A tribute to who Dawson was can be seen in the numerous friends that have surrounded him during his life. He and his friends enjoyed playing disc golf, going out for sushi, and being a part of a fantasy football league in the fall and winter, along with many other fun activities.
Those left to cherish his memory are Dan, Lori, Kailey, and Tallie; as well as his maternal grandparents Jean and Roger Zimmerman; paternal grandparents Joan and Dave Jacobsen; his uncles, Brad (Tami) Kerr, Todd Kerr, Todd Zimmerman and Troy (Kimberly) Zimmerman; aunt Lisa Meek; and cousins Zak (Jen) Kerr, Alex Kerr, Paige (Tyler) Schmeling, Lauren Zimmerman, Eleanor Meek, Zachary and Makayla Zimmerman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Johnston Evangelical Free Church, 9901 NW 62 nd Ave, Johnston, with visitation of friends and family prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Private family burial will be held at Lincoln Cemetery in Polk City.
Memorial contributions may be directed to any Veridian Community Credit Union under the name of Dawson Kerr Memorial (member number: 8985460), funds will be contributed to organizations that inspire young swimmers.

I've had the pleasure of working with Dawson for the past year. He was truly one of a kind. We would always share stories that would make us laugh and our thoughts on some politics. We always knew how to make each other laugh and brighten each other's day. I will always remember the time I got to spend with him and how he acted towards myself and others. My thoughts are with the Kerr family and he will be dearly missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kerr family during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working along side Dawson here at Lifetime Athletics in Las Vegas. I worked with Dawson many times and grew to know him as a person. He was a very kind and genuine guy who came to work and never failed to bring a smile to my face. I'll always remember the laughs we shared and the conversations we had about his dreams and aspirations in life. I will never forget him for I am deeply saddened by the news of his loss. My deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they go through this tough time.

There are no words. Having traveled this painful journey with my sister, Sheila, earlier this year, all I can say is take one breath at a time. You are bathed in prayer.

Sympathies to all. I worked with Grandma Joan . When she talked of her grandchildren she always had a sparkle in her eyes. May God help heal the pain.

I just moved to Vegas, and my second day at Life Time Athletic -GreenValley was the first time I met Dawson. His sweet smile and a warm "Hey I'm Dawson, nice to meet you" was more than enough to make us talk during our whole shift. My thoughts and prayers go for the family and for him. God gave me the greatest opprotunity to meet him, and I couldn't be more thankful. God Bless
