Judith Kay Sandvig, 74, passed away unexpectedly after suffering a long illness on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones.
Judith was born July 20, 1943, in Winterset, Iowa, to Melvin and Viva (Fairchild) Hansen. Judy grew up in Des Moines and has remained a life-long resident. She had a passion for her job with UnityPoint Health Care which she held for over 42 years until her retirement in October of 2016. Her family was most important to her and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Judith is survived by her daughter, Kim Hairston; grandchildren, Christina Duncan, Jessica Standlee, Angela Standlee, Morgan Gray, Cody Standlee and Kyr Gray; 17 great-grandchildren; mother, Viva Hansen; sisters, Cynthia (Larry) Johnson and Patricia (Ron) Brown; daughter-in-law, DeLoris Gray; and numerous other relatives and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Hansen and her son, Todd Gray.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Judith will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. Monday, September 18th at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Judy you have been my friend for 56 years. I have so many fun and heart felt memories of you and the many times we have spent together.
