David Joseph LaVia

David Joseph LaVia, 52, died September 11, 2017, at his home. He was born October 1, 1964, to Tony and Lois LaVia.
David proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Hermitage. All who knew David knew what an avid sports fan he was. He loved cheering on the Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He also loved his nature walks with his sister.
David is survived by his step-mother, Karen LaVia; siblings, Tony LaVia (Lea Bradshaw), Angie (Butch) Rodenkirk, Cindy LaVia, Nanette LaVia, Lucretia Cheatham, Vanessa (Jim) Farrell, Melissa (Steve) Sents, and Matthew LaVia; step-sister, Michele DuBois; step-brother, Bryan (Angie) DuBois; aunt, Rose (Jim) Williams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chris LaVia; and his grandparents.
A Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
