My uncle was a complicated man, but never intentionally so. His heart was full of nothing but love and positivity toward others. It's heartbreaking he couldn't see what we saw and love himself as we all loved him.
His life is no tragedy. He made his choices. We all do. If you think that he shouldn't have lived his life his own way, then you missed the point. He lived HIS life on HIS terms. To deny him that isn't love. The desire to control someone isn't love.
He never judged me too harshly. He never told me to be someone that I'm not. He loved me as I am. And in turn, he was honest with me too. He never lied to be about his struggles. He never wanted to hurt me with his truths, but he refused to hurt me with lies.
There's a lot of feelings to feel, but few words to say. I pray he found peace. I pray he's found what he was looking for. He loved that U2 song. I'll always think of him and his striking blue eyes and gentle voice calling me by my childhood nickname well into my adulthood, every time I hear it.
I love you, Harry. Shalom.
