Donald Knox, Sr.

Donald Paul Knox, Sr. was born September 17, 1928, in Woodward, Iowa, the son of Tom and Sarah (Haddow) Knox. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and worked as a truck driver for much of his life. He loved his family and treasured time spent with them. Donald married Gladys Dye on August 28, 1952, and he left this earth on their 65th wedding anniversary, at the age of 88.
There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery.
Some of Don’s interests included woodworking, gardening, and reading. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, and westerns. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Donnie (Sheryl) Knox, Bryan (Sally) Knox, and Susan Bass; grandchildren, Trisha (Jeff) Steenhoek, Brad Knox, Scott Knox, and Heather (Jason) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alec, Aiden, Kaleb, Klaire, Dominick, Blake, and Koda; as well as many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Gary Knox.
