Erik Richard Boettcher
August 24, 2017
Erik Boettcher, 47, passed away on August 24, 2017, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, August 28, 2017, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive visitors, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
Erik was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 3, 1970, to Richard and Sharilynne (Hamlin) Boettcher. Family was most important to Erik and he always had time for friends. He enjoyed playing darts and liked visiting the Spam Museum. Erik was a kind and generous soul with a ridiculous sense of humor. He was much loved, will be missed by all, and was a blessing in the many lives he touched. His only living regret was that in the winter of 1984, his mother never took him to the movie “Night of the Comet,” even though she had promised him that she would!
Erik is survived by his children, Alison Snyder, Gage Thompson, Catherine Boettcher and Sarah Boettcher; significant other, Paddie LaBruyere; mother, Sharilynne Boettcher; siblings, Michelle Boettcher (Leslie Lewis) and Kirk Boettcher (Jared Saks); nephew, Zachary Boettcher; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Boettcher and his grandparents, James and Leota Hamlin and Clarence and Cora Boettcher.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia Society in loving memory of Erik.

I hired Erik to be one of my Store Managers at Gamestop way back when. He became my right hand man and friend for many years. I never once saw him in a bad mood. He had a great sense of humor, was a great Store Manager and just a great guy who left us far too soon! Deepest condolences to his family and friends. I know he touched so many people and created so many smiles! You are missed Erik!!.

Good friend, you will be greatly missed. Still not sure how a straight guy knew that many showtunes. LOL. My thoughts are with your family and friends.

Didn't see him enough, but will miss him dearly. Shedding tears of sorrow for the personal void I feel, but smiling with joy for the health and happiness Erik is now experiencing with the other Hamlin and Boettcher angels!

There are not enough words to express how much joy and blessings my friendship with Erik brought to my life. We shared a kindred spirit of learning, books and obscure materials. I only got to beat him at darts ONCE. And I think he let me win... I love Erik as if he were my own brother. I will never forget him. To his partner and family, if you need anything, call me. I would be honored to serve.

Almost 20 years ago, Erik was the first boss I ever had. I was a scared but energetic kid and Erik turned an otherwise unassuming job into learning about everything involved in running a successful business and the lesson that working smart was just as important as working hard.
He was incredibly funny, loyal to his team, and a great friend. My success in life can be traced back to his early mentorship, and I'll always be grateful for the time I had working with him. He will be deeply missed, but always remembered.

Erik was one of the gang that I ran with in high school.
There were about 10 of us that hung out together all the time. We had a breakfast club, we participated in a lot of the same activities and we socialized as a group. Heck - we rented a limo on the last day of high school and rode out to Saylorville and back...because it seemed like a cool idea at the time LOL.
Erik was brilliant, had an amazing sense of humor and his whole face lit up every time he smiled. To many of us he was affectionately referred to as "E-Botch"
Although he and I didn't stay connected long after high school, it's been nice remembering him and some of our good times from our younger days.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
