Pastor Charles "Chuck" Morris
August 10, 2017
Chuck Morris, 54, was called home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2017, after a courageously fought battle with cancer. He was born in Osceola, Iowa, on May 4, 1963, to Connie and Charles Morris, Sr.
Chuck grew up in Indianola and graduated from Grandview Park Baptist School.
He was a man of great faith who served the Lord in all he did. Chuck began his ministry with Grace Church in 1987, fulfilling various positions within the church. Most recently, he served as Pastor of Congregational Care and Missions.
Chuck found great joy in the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for photography and was rarely in pictures because he was always behind the camera. Chuck was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. His greatest enjoyment came from the time spent with his family and the endless memories created on their family vacations.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Sue; children, Zach (Nancy) and Hannah; grandchildren, Micah and Reagan; parents, Charles and Connie; sister, Becky (Mike); father-in-law, Mike Canady; as well as his nieces, nephews, other loving family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ann Canady.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Grace Church, 4200 E. 25th Street in Des Moines with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Friday evening at the church from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Chuck.

I remember visiting Grace for the first time after being away for many years. I grew up seeing Pastor Chuck doing the Lord's work and was always impressed by him and loved hearing him speak. It wasn't until we came back after awhile that I realized what a blessing Chuck was to Grace. We were coming back to Des Moines and needed a church home and we thought that Grace would be great for our children to grow up in just like we did. Our daughter just turned 1 and Chuck always made a point to come over and tickle Hope's leg and say a few words to her. It was so encouraging and wonderful to be blessed by him for many years and even in these small ways he made us feel welcome and at home. We loved him for it and for welcoming us to our new church home where we can assist in continuing the work that Chuck started at Grace. Thank you, Chuck and thank you, Morris family for sharing such a wonderful man of God with a group of believers.

It was my pleasure to help serve with Pastor Chuck in the Celebrate Recovery Program. He was always transparent and a gentle soul. He had a profound affect in my life.
He performed my daughter Christina wedding ceremony. He also did my Aunt Mable funeral service. My prayers are for his family.

The addition of Chuck Morris to our family was one of its major blessings. I felt as though his marriage to my niece, Susie, was the answer to a prayer from her sweet heart. When I think of Chuck, I think of a dear soul with a sweet smile and a gentle way. Of course, the Lord would use him in His service! His contributions to so many lives untold, through his ministry, is unmeasurable. The world is a better place because Chuck Morris was here. Praise the Lord, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have known him. He will now work closely with our beloved Jesus to see to it that Susie and Hannah, and all others, will be taken care of, consoled and healed in their loss. We love you, Chuck. Please tell your dear mother-in-law, Ann, hello for us all. Love, Terry (and Joyce) Canady

I first met Chuck when I started going to Grandview Park Baptist School in 7th grade. He was a bit shorter than me and a little round. I left for 9th grade and returned the next year. One of things I remember most about when I returned was how much Chuck had grown and thinned out while I was gone! He was always a positive person and willing to help when needed, which never changed. After high school, we didn't see each other often as our lives took us on different paths. After moving back to Des Moines in 2009, it seemed like I would run into him quite often at Walmart "Social Center." Everytime this happened, we would catch up on how each other was doing and our families. This is how my husband, Jeff, got to know him and they became friends. To know Chuck was to like and even love him! I'm so sorry for your loss as he was a great person to have around. Love you and the tears I shed are due to the heartache I know you feel, Chuck, Connie, Becky, Sue, and the rest of the family!
