John Francis Burney, 65, of Des Moines IA, passed away on Aug. 8, 2017.
John is survived by his wife, Cindy (Klyn Murphy) Burney of Des Moines; brothers, Allen Burney of Des Moines and Charles Burney of Omaha; his children, Emily Burney Lyle (Caleb), Kelsey Burney, Daniel Morin, Trace Burney, Elliotte Crier, Daniel Burney, Rachel Burney; his step-children, Sarah Murphy Mannheimer (Zack), David Murphy (Amanda); and step-grandchildren, Mira, Lorelei, Benjamin, Quinn and Fiona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Frank Burney of Des Moines; sisters, Leslie Burney and Robyn Tingwald of Des Moines; and his infant son, Robert.
John graduated high school from Des Moines Hoover in 1972 and served in the United States Marine Corps where he worked in communications. From 1989-2000, John worked at Des Moines University’s College of Podiatric Medicine as a Podiatric Orthotic Specialist. In 2000, John moved to Edmonton, Canada to manage Ultrex Podiatric Laboratories.
Since returning to Iowa in 2011, John has enjoyed volunteering at Catholic Worker House in Des Moines and working part-time at Kohl’s. His pleasant smile and caring heart will be missed by his family and many life-long friends. John loved playing his guitar, listening to live music, watching movies and spending time with his children.
Memorial service, open to friends and family, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Greenwood Park, Sylvan Amphitheatre, in Des Moines, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to benefit John’s five youngest children’s educational needs.

I am so sorry for the loss of John. I had the privilege of working with him. He was always willing to do anything for anyone. He will be missed by all that knew him.

I a!m sorry to hear about johns passing I was his neighbour for almost 2 years and I had found out through a friend of mine and a coworker of his of his passing I'm in shock that he passed the way he did
