Marv was one of the finest and most innovative public officials I ever worked with. Our public careers were virtually contemporaneous. His work as Comptroller for Gov. Bob Ray and the legislature in the 1970s is the stuff of legends. In recent years we'd meet on the sidewalk on the west side of "his" church and talk of those days--sharp as a razor. He wrote the fiscal "how to" playbook for Iowa state government. His loss is great but his worth lives on.
