David Lee Cox, 70, passed away August 6, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
David was born January 9, 1947 in Richland, Iowa to Samuel and Thelma Cox. He graduated from Pekin High School. David worked for the City of Des Moines for over 25 years. He enjoyed maintaining and relaxing by his koi pond that he and his son built. David also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved being a grandfather and being silly with his three grandchildren. David was also an animal lover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Anna Marie; daughter, Amanda Cox; son, Douglas Cox; grandchildren, Caliana and Vincent Struthers and Mason Cox; brothers, Daryl (Verla) Cox and James Roy Cox; sisters, Carolyn (Ed) Knoot and Janice Montgomery; and a host of extended family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathryn Biggs.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 11th at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1115 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or the donor’s favorite charity in loving memory of David.

Just thought of David and found this. He was such a lovely man. Enjoyed when he visited the Vision Center at Walmart. Horrible that he had to struggle the last years of his life. Im sure you miss him.

Anna, I am so sorry to hear that David passed away I did not have your phone number to call you I tried calling a while back but no one answered and I left a message if you want to call me my cell number is the same 515 491-0490 again I'm so sorry to hear this news tell the kids I'm sorry as well. Wanted to let you know that Jennie let me go as well so I no longer work in August home not working at this time .

I am extremely heartbroken to hear the news. Mr. Cox was a sweet and loving man. May his soul rest in peace. Praying for the rest of the family for courage and strength during this time.
