Larry Critchlow

Larry Robert Critchlow, 71, passed away August 2, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born September 24, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edwin and Naomi Critchlow.
Larry graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1963 and he served in Vietnam with the Marine Corps for two years prior to his honorable discharge in 1967.
Following his military service, Larry went to work as a diesel mechanic for International Harvester and was also a custodian for the Urbandale Public School System for many years. Most recently, he worked as a “dietetic technician” for the VA Hospital, a job he loved and was dedicated to for 19 years.
Larry married Sharon Halsten on April 27, 1968, in Des Moines. He enjoyed sprint car races at Knoxville Speedway, listening to music, watching television, and coaching little league baseball when he was younger.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Joe (Michelle) Critchlow, Dawn Critchlow, and Laura Phelps; grandchildren, Tyler Critchlow, Kole Critchlow, Emily Critchlow, Jessica Critchlow, Daniel Critchlow, Nevaeh Phelps, and Camden Phelps; siblings, Terry and Pam; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gina.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

So sorry to hear of Larry's passing & condolences to the family. It has been a long time since we met. My memories include parties in peoples basements, dancing to 60's and 70's music; family picnics; July 4th fireworks - fun carefree days. Thank you for your military service. Rest in Peace.
