Bruce Ellis Staten

Bruce Ellis Staten (Sr), 62, of Altoona, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday, July 30, 2017.
Bruce was born April 2, 1955 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Margania Walker Staten and Ernest Staten (Sr). Margania later married Charles E Britt when Bruce was a young child. Bruce graduated from New Bern Senior High School, North Carolina in 1973. He served as a tanker in both the United States Army and the Texas National Guard. Bruce became a Registered Nurse, graduating from Central Texas College, Killeen, TX, in 1988. Bruce married his current wife, Marla Ryerkerk July 16, 1990 in Belton, TX. Bruce retired from both nursing and the Veteran’s Administration Healthcare Systems in 2004. Bruce enjoyed photography, models, computers, cooking, his grandchildren, target shooting, and tandem triking with Marla.
Bruce is survived by: wife Marla, brother Ernest Staten (Letricia) Tulsa, OK, sisters Joyce Diamond (Garland), Woodbridge, VA and Deborah Barrett (Lee) New Bern, NC, children Heather Montgomery (James) Pella, IA, Anthony Staten, Altoona, IA, Dante Staten Temple, TX, Bruce Staten Jr. OH, Jamie Wilkinson (Stephen) Kingwood, TX, Christopher Muse (Gaby) San Antonio, TX, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bruce’s cremains will be interred at New Bern Memorial Cemetery in New Bern, NC, with a graveside service.
