Service Details

Philip Peter Brilz, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Mercy Hospice Johnston. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10-12pm Tuesday prior to the service.

Philip was born June 18, 1924 in Center, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Eva Brilz. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in Germany. He retired as a truck driver at Des Moines Asphalt Company. Phil was a Charter member of the Polka Club of Iowa and served as State President.
Philip is survived by his daughter, Penney (Stephen Cooper) Smith of Des Moines; son, Barney (Marie) Brilz of Florida; daughter, Jacklynn (Darrell) Draper of Davenport; grandchildren, Paige Smith, Sean, Alexandria, Vincent and Krystina Brilz, Troy and Shawn Daly, Melissa and Todd Johnson, Jeremy Draper, sisters, Eva Schulte, Willie Stockert, Katherine Dinius, and Marian Berg; sister in-law, Maggie Brilz; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friend, Arlis Childs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Patsy Daly; sister, Rose Dilger and brother, Leo Brilz. The bonds of friendship he developed through the years were priceless to him.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a fund to enable Philip’s family to pursue charitable deeds in his honor. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospice Johnston for their outstanding care and support.
