Deloras Northway

Deloras Jean (Whitman) Northway, of Des Moines, IA, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2017, at Mercy Hospital.

She was born on June 10, 1940, in Eldon, IA, to Harold and Madeline Whitman. Deloras graduated from Saydel High School in 1957. In May of 1957, she married Kenneth Leroy Northway, and together they had three children, LeAnn, Julie and Kenneth, Jr. Deloras worked as a Porkette Coordinator for Iowa Pork Producers until retirement. She enjoyed working with her husband, Kenneth at Prairie Meadows Casino as a mutuel teller. Deloras dedicated her life to family, and enjoyed spending many hours talking, laughing and traveling with many dear friends and family members. She was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Deloras is survived by her husband, Kenneth Leroy Northway; daughter, LeAnn Deloras (Northway) Helmick; sisters, Donna Vance (Lawrence), Roseanne Genovese (Steve) and Barb Bean (Steve); grandchildren, Shahna Bronson (Ken), Travis Helmick (Krystal) and Joshua Pruis; six great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Madeline Whitman; brother, Charles Whitman; sister, Brenda Golay; son, Kenneth Northway, Jr.; and daughter, Julie Pruis.

A memorial service will be held at Berean Assembly of God Church, 5299 E University Avenue, Pleasant Hill, IA, on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Deloras Memorial Fund at First Class Community Credit Union.
