Vera Marie Sullivan

Vera Marie Sullivan, 80, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017. Services will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Vera was born July 13, 1936 to Verne and Evelyn (Erickson) Lindahl in Boone, IA. She married Raymond L. Sullivan on July 25, 1954 and the couple raised their family in Urbandale, IA. Vera was a loving and caring wife and mother who devoted herself to her family. She was an active volunteer with the American Heart Association, Urbandale Little League and the Raymond Blank Children’s Hospital Guild; and worked for a time for Langan Paper Co. and Polk County Family Enrichment Center. Vera also enjoyed cooking for her family – especially baking pies, spoiling her grandchildren, cross-stitch and fishing.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond; children, Stephen of Minneapolis, MN, Gaila (Bob) Conklin of Urbandale, IA, Brian of Thailand, Pat (Leslie) of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Rob and Ryan (Ann) Conklin, Andrew, Gaila and Steveo Sullivan, Bailey Evans, Marshall Sharp, and RaeAnn Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Oliver Conklin and Joslynn Evans; and her sisters, Dorothy Hoksbergen, Joyce Kerns, Charlotte Lindahl, Cheri Troutman and Nancy Platter. Vera was preceded in death by her son, Michael David Sullivan; her parents; and brothers, James L. and Donald E. Lindahl.
