Caroline Raveling

Caroline Raveling, 91 died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Grace Church, 4200 E. Aurora with burial following at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Caroline was born January 9, 1917 in LaVerne, Minnesota. She married John Raveling on March 14, 1942. Caroline worked for Home Plastics, she later worked in the sewing room at Iowa Methodist Medical Center before her retirement in 1981. In July of 1981, Caroline began her work as a volunteer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Blank Children’s Hospital, where she logged over 9,000 hours. She also enjoyed crocheting, she made prayer shawls for people in nursing homes and hearts for Hospice.
Caroline is survived by her son, John Raveling and his wife, Janice of Lakewood, Colorado; daughter, Sue Raveling of Des Moines; sister, Berniece Lebens of Torrance, California; four grandchildren, Jill Bearden of Brenham, Texas, John Raveling IV of Littleton, Colorado, Andre Raveling of Tampa, Florida and Natalie Allen of Loveland, Colorado; and five great-grandchildren, Danny, Katherine, Zoey, MaryCaroline and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Raveling.
In honor of her volunteer service at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Blank Children’s Hospital, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Iowa Health Foundation, 1440 Ingersol, Des Moines, IA 50309 in Caroline’s memory.
