Charles S. Slaughter

Charles S. Slaughter Jr., 80, died Monday, January 28, 2008 at Kavanagh House. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1500 SE 6th with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wed. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home.
Charles was born June 27, 1927 in Collins, IA to Florence Irene and Charles S. Slaughter Sr. He was a veteran of the US Navy in World War II. Charles worked as a self employed mechanic and later as a truck driver for Penske and Brown National Lease. Charles was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and woodworking. He was a real handyman.
Charles is survived by his wife, Norma; his children, Diana Floden (Richard), Debra Melichar (George), Ronald Slaughter, Gary Slaughter, and Denise Jons (Troy); His step-daughter, Pam Ostrem; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; his siblings, Evelyn Houghtaling and Arnold Slaughter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Slaughter and his daughter, Donna Brown. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Fellowship Baptist Church.
