Robert E. "Bob" Johnston

Robert E. “Bob” Johnston 79, of Waukee died Friday at home. A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy. in West Des Moines. Mr. Johnston has been cremated.
Bob was born February 6, 1928 in Quincy, IL. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean conflict; and was also a member of the American Legion. Bob worked for Iowa Pack and Swift and Company for most of his life as a meat cutter.
He was active in Boy Scouts, and received the Order of the Arrow. Over the years, Bob was the president of an AARP chapter in Des Moines and was on the Special Police force under Governor Ray. He enjoyed bowling, church activities and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife Kay of 16 years; his daughters, Patricia (William) Chandler of Omaha, NE and Karen (Ronald) Crecelius of Shawnee, OK; his son, Ronald (Karen) Johnston of Moriarty, NM; his step-son, Carl (Debra) Evans of West Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Bob.

Dad,
We are so very glad we were able to see you last spring. We hope you will save us a seat at the table. We will miss you deeply, but we know this will not be for long. So dad- toodles :)
