L. James “Jim” Leege, 74, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 surrounded by his family, at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the L. James Leege Gymnasium, located at The Salvation Army, 1216 E. 25th Ct.
Jim was born August 24, 1932 to Virgil and Marian Leege, Sr. in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked for the University of Iowa Hygenic Lab and The Salvation Army before his retirement in 1994. While at The Salvation Army, he served as recreational director for The Salvation Army Community Center, director of The Salvation Army Booth Services and director of public relations. In 2002 The Salvation Army gymnasium was dedicated in his name in honor of 25 years of commitment to recreational ministries for the community and The Salvation Army. He was a Senior Solider of The Salvation Army Corps Community Center and a former Eastside Kiwanian.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Debbie J. (Bill) Allison, Jim D. (Lorri) Leege, Terri A. (Eddie) Putney, Connie L. (Gary) Foster, Ruth L. Allen and Michael D. (Peggy) Leege; brother, Virgil John (Patsy) Leege; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elda Seivers and Mary Lou Hansen and his brother, Bob Leckington.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.
Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. is handling arrangements.
