Doris Dee Peterson, 94, of Carlisle, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Doris was born on May 15, 1913 to George Edson and Charlotte Turner Dee at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
Doris attended Eau Claire State University. She transferred to Stout State University where she was affiliated with Phil Omicron National Honor Society. Upon graduation she taught English and Home Economics at Lincoln High School, Manitowoc.
On August 20, 1939 she was united in marriage to Marvin M. Peterson. They moved to Sheboygan where Marvin Red Peterson was with the mathematic department and coached football and track. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1997.
Doris taught at Urban Junior High. She also substituted in the city schools and taught under the Wisconsin State Department of Rehabilitation.
In the community Doris was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Girl Scout Council and later a Scout Leader for several years. Doris was a member of American Association of University Women, Sheboygan Historical Society, Friends of the Library, and School PTA. Currently she contributed to SCARTA and WEA.
Doris is survived by three children, Dee Ann (Robert) Steben, Joan E. Garton, Richard (Nancy) Peterson; seven grandchildren; Scott, Marc (Melissa) Steben, Sarah (Douglas) Nixon, Judd Steben, Eric Peterson, Melissa (Chad) Anderson, Dr. Shannon (Garton) Eric Eckdahl and twelve great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26th at Berean Assembly of God. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
