Service Details

William M. Livingston, 93, of Des Moines, passed away at the Fountain West Health Center in Des Moines on Saturday, January 19, 2008. The funeral service will be held at the Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral home on Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00 P.M. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Burial will follow the service at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA.
William was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on May 25, 1914 to Charles and Ethel (Walling) Livingston. William graduated from the Ottumwa High School. He was united in marriage to Sara Catherine Jamison on June 26, 1938. They moved to Monmouth, IL in 1943 until they moved to Marshalltown, IA in 1966 where William then retired from the Rail Road in 1975. He also served in the CCC Camp during W.W. II. He loved fishing, music and playing his banjo and keyboard at different nursing homes after his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown and was also a member of the Moose Lodge.
William is survived by his loving wife Catherine: two daughters; Judy (Larry C.) Osborne, and Vera (Ted F.) Matteson: seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Ted Matteson Jr.
