John Raymond Leister

John Raymond Leister, 76, passed away July 5, 2017. A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Monday, July 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. and a time for sharing of memories at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m.

John was born October 27, 1940 in Columbus, OH to John and Betty (Lloyd) Leister. After completing his education he joined the military and served in the US Air Force. He later obtained his Associate Degree and worked as a building engineer for Capital Square, retiring when he was 71. John loved photography, gardening, painting, and artwork. As well as vacationing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Mandy Leister, John P. Leister, Tyler Leister, and Alex Leister; step-children, Kerry (Chris) Colwell, Thom (Lisa) Harlow, and Ryan Sweet and Stephanie Dowd; grandchildren, John Robert (Megan) Leister, Michael Leister, and Mary Kate Leister; siblings, Jerry (Kathrine) Leister and Tom Leister; and many other loving family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents.
