Charles "Chuck" Griffith
July 03, 2017
Chuck Griffith, 64, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Chuck was born on January 7, 1953, in Des Moines to Nedra and David Griffith. He was a resident of Smithville, Missouri. Chuck was a 1971 graduate of North High School and retired Ironworker from Local 498 (Rockford), 67 (Des Moines), 10 (Kansas City) as the Ironworker Superintendent with JE Dunn Construction.
Brother, father, grandfather, and a friend to all, Chuck was an important spoke to the Griffith family. He was a man's man that everyone wanted to be with and loved to be photographed with all the beautiful women in his life. Chuck lived an active life outdoors touring on his Harley, fishing and hunting with his friends. He followed the mantra - Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit... What A Ride!" and in his last year of retirement he certainly gave his all to meet that goal.
Chuck is survived by his son, Shane (Lulu) Griffith of Chicago, Illinois, and their children, Shae and Lilli; his daughter, Jaime Ruffing of Dallas, Texas; siblings, Tom (Marsha) Griffith of Des Moines, Rita Talarico of Norwalk, Sandy (George) Davis of Des Moines, and Mary Ann Sevald of Ankeny; his four legged best friend, Maggie; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Nedra Griffith; brothers, Darrell Griffith, Ray Griffith, and Jack Griffith; sister, Colleen Kieffer; sister-in-law, Renee Griffith; brothers-in-law, Al Sevald, Ernie Talarico, and John Kieffer; niece, Stacie Nelson; and 2nd mom Jeannie Schomer.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery with a luncheon following in the All Saints Church Hall.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.

So sorry Shane and Jaime, I just can't believe this. Chuck was always such a great guy. He was easy to talk to, fearless and a tireless worker. I remember when that tornado came through the house in Johnston and instead of fretting about it he just picked up the biggest chainsaw and went to work on the biggest tree in the yard. Gonna miss him, hope he leaves some fish for us in heaven.

Chuck, we were as far as part politically as two people could get, but I loved you with all my heart. I was always proud of you, and how mellow you were. You were a joy as a younger brother, and I absolutely respected your ability to contribute to our society as an ironworker. A career maybe underestimated by many, and could only be done by a few brave soldiers.
