Service Details

Patricia Fay Watson Hurley, 93, of Mitchellville, Iowa died Friday, June 30 in her home.

She was born March 9, 1924 in Albia, Iowa to Earl and Nellie DeLashmutt Baty. She married David Cameron Watson at her parents’ home in Albia on July 8, 1944 in a double ceremony with her sister, Melba Laverna Baty, and Robert Watson Felton.
Patricia was a graduate of Albia High School. She and David worked on their farm while raising two children. Patricia was an accomplished seamstress, upholsterer, farmer, and mom extraordinaire.

Besides her work, Patricia enjoyed anything that kept her moving: dancing, mopeding until 86, and anything fun. She was a quiet support to so many, a voice of love with staying power. Over the years, many sought her company and council and were always rewarded with a ready laugh, a warm hug, and the admonishment to, “Be happy!” All those around her loved her zest for life, her positive attitude, and youthful spirit.

Patricia is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Watson and her wife, Mary McGough of Des Moines; one grandson Matthew Watson and his wife, Keli, two great grandsons, Hayden and Lincoln, one nephew, Rob Eells. Also surviving is one sister, Sally Baty of Albia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Gary Lynn Watson, one grandson, Steve Watson, her sister, Melba Laverna Felton, one brother, Don Baty, and niece Kathy Felton Eells.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
