Diana Cecilia Hemann of Des Moines passed away on June 29, 2017 at Taylor House, surrounded by her family.

Diana was born on May 20, 1936 in Bradford PA to Leda (Seay) Benson and Arthur Kern.

She graduated from Iowa City High in Iowa City, Iowa. On January 29, 1955 she married Vernon J. Hemann. Diana and Vernon were active members of Christ the King Catholic Parish since 1965 where Diana was involved in many school and church activities including the Altar & Rosary Society, Parish office and library, and School lunch room. After retiring from Wells Fargo in 1999 she kept a full schedule volunteering for organizations in the Des Moines Community including Iowa Methodist Medical Center and the Blood Center. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles but her primary interest was her family.

Diana is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vernon, her 11 children: Gary (Ronda), Joan Stotts, Alan, Janet (Don) Ceretti, Andi, Jeff (Diane), Brian, Cindy (Larry) Phillips, Chris (Teresa), Darren (Caren) and Scott; 16 grandchildren: Teresa (Jason) Edwards, Greg (Becky) Stotts, Melissa (Eric) Borell, Laura (Jimmy) Sarcone, Joshua Hemann, Emily (Brady) Streit, Zach Stotts, Lauren, Michelle, and Rachel Giddings, Collin and Alec Hemann, Nick and Anna Hemann, Jacob and Holly Hemann; and 10 great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Samuel Stotts, Aliana and Elliott Borell, Emmet Edwards, Jack and Cecilia Sarcone, Lucas Tarter, Christian Montelongo, and Piper Streit; brothers: Richard Kern; William (Elaine) Kern; and a sister, Kathleen (Greg) Carlson; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law, Pauline Kern.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 S.W. 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Christ the King Foundation in loving memory of Diana.
