Joseph John Russo, Sr.

Joseph John Russo was born on 7/28/1926 to James & Mary Russo in Ft. Des Moines, Ia. He was raised in Chicago, Ill. and he passed away on 06/28/2017.

Joseph served in WWII in the Pacific. He came home from the war in 1946 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1947. There he met up with an old school mate, Angela Fucaloro and started seeing her. They were married April 17, 1948. Together they raised a total of six children, four boys and two girls.

He retired as a union painter of 65 years. He loved to go to Prairie Meadows, to the Senior Centers and when not there, loved playing cards with his pals. Western movies are a favorite pass-time as well. For the past 10 years has spent the cold winter months with his son Nick and family in Arizona. Joe is a charmer “flirt”! Always making the women feel special and loved!

Joe is preceded in death by: Wife, Angie of 46 years; parents, James Russo/Mary Losito; daughter, Virginia Comito and son, Dino Russo.

Survived by children; Joseph Russo Jr., James (Dee) Russo, Nick (Ellen) Russo, Jonine (Roger) Laffoon, son-in-law John Comito; thirteen grandchildren and twenty seven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Joseph will be laid to rest with military honors at Glendale Cemetery.
