Joseph Jay Walker went to be with the Lord on June 28th at Valley View Village. Joe was born on November 28, 1920 to Ernest and Myrtle (Cassill) Walker on the family farm in Blakesburg, IA. He went to Blakesburg Schools. He married Dora Lyon Esther Arnold on March 26, 1941. They were blessed with three children: Robert, Birdie, and Ronald.

He spent most of his life taking care of the animals and crops on the family farm. That was his favorite place to be. He also worked at Barker’s in Ottumwa. Driving the school bus for Blakesburg and Ottumwa School Districts gave him much joy.

He loved teasing and playing jokes on everyone he met. He didn’t know a stranger. He enjoyed helping the other residents at Valley View Village with anything they needed. Many hours were spent playing cards with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Dora Lyon, son Robert (Eulalia) of Sioux Falls SD, daughter Birdie Stocker of Des Moines, daughter-in-law Shirley Walker of Oskaloosa, 12 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Neva, brother’s Orville and Dwight, son Ronald, son-in-law Lyle Stocker, and daughter-in-law Dora Walker.

Memorial service will be at Valley View Village on Monday, July 3rd at 11:00. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will be at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa, IA following the service. Contributions may be made to the family.
