Shirley Jury

Shirley Jury, 89 passed away on June 27, 2017 at Manor Care in West Des Moines, IA. Services were private. Shirley was born January 24, 1928 and lived in Des Moines most of her life. She was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines and retired from Polk County in 1993.

Shirley was a proud democrat and loved to engage in political dialogue. She was an avid ice skater as a youth, and loved the Iowa State Fair and attending events at the Des Moines Civic Center. Learning to drive and entering the workforce at the age 42, she was a strong advocate for the empowerment of women. To the chagrin of her children and grandchildren, she had a unique talent of addressing the issues they least wanted to discuss within the initial moments of every conversation. All in the spirit of personal growth!

Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard of 71 years; two daughters, Annette (Jesse) Tom of Indianola, IA and Pamela Jury of West Des Moines, IA; two sons, Carey (Ann) Jury of Clive, IA and Patrick (Cathy) Jury of West Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Ferguson; her brother, Richard; and sister, Doreen.
