Garry Dean Marchant

Garry D. Marchant, 66, passed away June 20, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center.

Garry was born January 9, 1951, the son of Gerald and Wilma Marchant in Liberty Center, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1973. Garry worked for the City of Des Moines for many years and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #234. He enjoyed fishing, car shows and spending time with his family.

Garry is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; daughter, Zabrina Marchant-Laughner; son, Benny Smith; step-children, Lisa Bender and Melissa Rhoades; brothers, Barry and Gene Marchant; grandchildren, Ben, Michael, Cheyenne, Ashley, George, Kaitlyn and Ariel; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis and his nephew, Jon.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, June 27th at the funeral home followed by burial at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
