Nanette L. Smith, 56, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Des Moines after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on December 27, 1960 in Des Moines to Larena and Darrell “Bud” Nellis. Nanette married Calvin Smith on March 31, 2012.
Nanette graduated from Urbandale High School in 1979. She enjoyed playing darts, going to the races, camping and cheering hard for the Denver Broncos.
Nanette’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin; children, Melissa (Josh) Scott and Ashley Schwaderer; grandchildren, Dakota Miller, Aliyah Eternicka and Avery and Aubree Scott; parents, Bud and Larena Nellis; siblings, Vicki (Orvil) Sarsfield, Virginia Bray and Darrell Nellis, Jr.; stepchildren, Cody (Alexis), April, Amanda (Mike) and Calvin, Jr., step-grandchildren, Brandon, Michael, Antonio and Kylie; and many relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
A celebration of life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Urbandale Senior Citizens Center, 7305 Aurora Ave, Urbandale, IA 50322. This will be a potluck so please bring a dish to share.

Calvin, Melissa & Ashley, I am so sorry for your loss. I still can't believe this. I so wish this was not real. Hang on to each other during this difficult time. I wish the circumstances could have been better the past few years. I will cherish the memories that I had with her. She was such a great person. I miss her so much.
Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could be there for you all. If there is anything I can do please let me know. I love you all

You will be missed dearly you were a very cool person condolences to the family . Fly high with the angels now tell my daughter Kathleen up there in heaven that momma loves her and misses her . Rip Nanette your at piece now your suffering is over .

This doesn't even seem real to me Nan...My love heart and prayers go out to your entire family!!! I miss you so much! I never thought that when I talked to you last Tuesday that I'd never hear your voice or see you again!!! My condolences also to Aunt Larena and and Uncle Bud Calvin Smith Melissa Scott and Ashley Schwaderer love you all and so sorry for your loss!!!!
