Jeannette Marie Wormuth
June 14, 2017
Jeannette Marie Wormuth was born October 24, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa to John and Stella Sokolowski. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 14, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston at the age of 66.
Jeannette graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1968. She married Monty Wormuth on June 15, 1974. Together they raised two children and enjoyed the company of three grandchildren. Jeannette retired in 2016 from U.S. Commodities, where she had been the office manager for 16 years. She was also a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Jeannette loved working in the yard with her gardening. She enjoyed playing softball herself and was also the den mother for many years for her daughter’s softball leagues. Jeannette cherished her animals – not just her domestic pets, but anything else that came along, as well. It was often said she liked animals more than people. She was a big Knoxville Speedway fan, as well. She attended every Sprint Car Nationals Race Event for 37 years. Meeting up with old friends and making new ones at the campgrounds was something she looked forward to every year. When race season was over, she spent time with her family visiting local Des Moines restaurants like Riccelli’s, Noah’s, and Baratta’s. It was important to her to support local businesses.
Jeannette will be remembered by her loving husband of 43 years, Monty; her daughter, Tammy (Greg) Bleers of Chicago; son, Monty John Wormuth of Des Moines; grandchildren, John Luke and Josie Bleers, and Makayla Wormuth; sisters, Barbara Pruitt and Linda (Dave) Allen, both of Des Moines; her mother-in-law Ilene Kirschbaum of Des Moines, brothers-in-law James (Maureen) Wormuth of Des Moines, Ray (Cindy) Kirschbaum of Elkhart, Daniel Kirschbaum, and Tom Kirschbaum both of Des Moines; sisters-in-laws Susan Kirschbaum, and Kathy Kirschbaum, both of Des Moines. many cousins, nieces, nephews, treasured friends, and of course, her beloved dogs, Jake, Billy, and Bonnie.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister JoAnn Miller.
The family will greet friends Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the ladies and gentlemen of the Fleur Hy-Vee for always checking in and taking care of Jeannette; as well as the staff at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. The attention, care and concern they showed for Jeannette and her family was impeccable.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Jeannette.
