Simon Ochoa, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice. He was born on March 24, 1938 in Crystal City, Texas.

Simon had a passion for the outdoors, fishing and drinking Busch Light. He enjoyed riding around on his scooter and going to the Goodwill. Simon treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a ladies man and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, Yolanda Ochoa, Elias (Carolyn) Ochoa, Leticia (Francisco) Caballero, Simon (Leeann) Ochoa, Jr., and Norma (Phillip) Rangel; grandchildren, Elias (Shella) Ochoa, Elijah (Tabitha) Ochoa, Fabian (Natalie) Mota, Senaida (Dimas) Mota-Mendez, Margarita (Queyo) Mendez-Mota, Jesus (Dre) Mota, Gabriela Caballero, Laura (Javier) Lerma, Lorenzo Lerma, Lazaro Lerma, Amanda Ochoa, Joshua Ochoa, Uniz (Carlos) Ceballos, and Cesar (Michelle) Fierro; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Felis, Daniel, Ismael, Isabel, and Selfia; and a host of extended family and friends.

Simon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva; son, Gabriel Ochoa; daughter, Elsa Lerma; parents, Dionisio and Victoria Ochoa; and siblings, Elena, Amelia, Olivia, Lydia, Alfredo, Jaime, and Martin; and stepmother, Concepcion Ochoa.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, June 19th, also at the funeral home followed by burial at Pine Hill Cemetery.
