Robert William Uhlman

Robert William Uhlman, age 91, passed away Wednesday evening, June 7, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born May 10, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Conlan) Uhlman. He attended West High School in Des Moines and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was a self-employed tile and flooring contractor before his retirement. He enjoyed building doll houses and wooden toys for his grandchildren. He enjoyed meeting and talking to people as they came and went from the Iowa State Fair and enjoyed a morning cup of coffee with his many friends.
Robert is survived by his sons, Jerry (Cindy) Uhlman and Dan (Debra) Uhlman; daughter Tere (Mark) Glasnapp; grandsons Doug Uhlman, Isaac (Kari) Olsen, and Connor (Hiliary) Uhlman; granddaughters Kimberly Uhlman, Joy (Eric Waters) Olsen, and Sydney Uhlman; great-grandson Landon Olsen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Ann (Thomas) Uhlman and daughter Brenda Uhlman; brother Frank Uhlman; sisters Bettie Uhlman and Katherine Morgan.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St, Des Moines. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

We were blessed to know Bob & Jean. We loved them both. Loved to visit with Bob and hear his stories. Bob taught me (Fabricio) alot about home improvement. He was instrumental in helping me learn to do so many things when it came to that. I will always be grateful. We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with your families.

We lived by Bob for 16 years. He and his wife were very helpful during a fire we had in the garage, took our 2 little kids and entertained them while the fire was put out. Always said hi to people that walked by. Our prayers go out to his family during this time.
