Ardythe Norene Hanson was born on October 8, 1927 in Marne, Iowa, to Walter and Myrtle Anderson. Ardie grew up as an only child surrounded by her many cousins and her horses. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1945 where she was also crowned the homecoming queen. Ardie met George Hanson when he came home from WWII. They married and moved to Des Moines where they raised a family. Ardie had many jobs through the years. Her careers included: secretary for Iowa Daily Press, Jack of all trades for the Jim Dandy Lounge, and Social Security customer representative. She just retired as a para-mutual teller from Prairie Meadows only 2 years ago at the age of 87!

Ardie and George raised 3 children, Steve, Greg, and Holly. When she was not being a mother and grandmother to 7 (Jake Hanson, Bart Scott, Chelsea Reed, Lacy Brittenson, Joanna Scott, Melissa Stone, Joe Hanson) and great-grandmother of 7 (Asher Larsen, Evy Brittenson, Henry, Sydney, Abby Reed, Brayden and Averie Scott).

Ardie enjoyed traveling, British television, and her doggies. She was a wonderful cook, always trying new recipes. She had a love of chocolate and the British TV show "Are you being Served." She was a true supporter of Southeast Polk sports and loved watching her children and grandchildren play. She was a very giving woman, giving to many charities.

Ardie passed away peacefully at her Altoona home surrounded by her family on June 7th 2017. She will forever stay in our hearts and memories. There was no one like her so NVR U MND!

Memorial services will be 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SE, Altoona. Family will greet guests two hours prior to the service.
