Willa Rae Rietz, 92, passed away June 5, 2017. Services will be held Thursday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Willa was born September 13, 1924 in Granger, IA to Letha (Chrisman) and William Adey. She moved to Des Moines when she was 10 years old and attended Greenwood Elementary and graduated from Saint Joseph Academy. Willa married Lester Rietz in 1944 and worked for the Clerk of Court as an Accountant for 19 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching the Gilmore Girls, and NCIS because Mark Harmon reminded her of her husband, Les.
She was a devoted wife to Lester Rietz (1920-1985); loving mother to John Rietz (1946-2009), Susan McMurray (Tom) of West Des Moines, Diane Parsons (Rick) of Fort Collins CO, James Rietz of West Des Moines, and Michael Rietz (Kari) of Bloomington MN; grandmother to 19, Leslea Phelps (Wendell) and Michelle Rietz of Des Moines, John Rietz (Christine) of Tucson, AZ, Amee Rietz (Keith Erickson) of Des Moines, Luke Rietz (Jamie) and Whitney Wargo (Matt) of Tucson, AZ, Mark Rietz and Matthew Rietz of Des Moines, Jason McMurray (Jill) of Franklin, TN, Jared McMurray of West Des Moines, Elizabeth Delap (Deven) of Fort Collins, CO, Ryan Parsons (Lissette) of Denver, CO, Nick Parsons of Fort Collins, CO, Paul Rietz (Julie) of Norwalk, IA, Tracee Rietz of Des Moines, Holly Horning and Kelsey Gannon (Ricky) of Phoenix, AZ, Jacob Rietz (Deceased), and Nicole Rietz of Denver, CO; also 18 great-grandchildren.

I was sorry to hear about Willa's passing. My sympathy is with the family during this time. She was a devoted mother to her family, and a truly wonderful person to be around. I am thankful to have known her. God rest her and keep her.

Willa and I had been friends since 1971. I met her and Les and they were the perfect couple Then years later I ran into her again at Michaels
And had another long time of being friends,
a great Lady I will miss her a lot
