Joseph “Joe” Savage, age 90, of Lead Hill, Arkansas, passed away Saturday morning, June 3, 2017, at Mount Vista Rehabilitation and Health Center in Harrison, Arkansas. He was born in Grand Junction, Iowa on March 16, 1927, the son of Matthew and Viola (Schmidt) Savage. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; and their only son, Joseph Davis.

Joe lived in Lead Hill and was a faithful member of Lord of the Lake Lutheran Church in Diamond City, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army at the end of World War II and joined the Naval Reserves in 1946, after his stint in the Army, and served until 1951. He worked for over 30 years as a machinist at John Deere.

Joe and Inge moved to Arkansas in 1993. He was a very creative craftsman who loved working with his hands and fishing. There will be an empty space in the hearts of his friends and neighbors. Inge is returning to Iowa to be near her family.

Joe is survived by his wife of 27 years, Inge (Grimm) Savage; her four sons, Chuck (Audrey), Mark (Theresa), Kenny (Laura) and John, all of Des Moines; daughter-in-law Stacy Summers of Murray, Iowa; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a host other family and dear friends.

Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 12, 2017, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral service is 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

Interment is in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa.

Reception to follow interment at the Van Meter Hall at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
