George Evans

George C. Evans, 85, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
George was born May 8, 1922 in Stuart, IA to Benton and Eva Evans. He served in the U.S. navy during WWII. George retired from Pittsburg Des Moines Steel in 1984 after 15 years of service. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George enjoyed baseball and was an avid Iowa Cubs fan. He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 274.
George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Evans; daughter, Katherine Ward; grandchildren, Steve (Ronda) Ward, Tina (Jimmy) Welton, Melissa (David) Garcia and Shawn (Lana) Bradshaw; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Olivia, Callie, Jimmy, Paul, Theresa and Alicia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sandra Bradshaw.
