Gerald M. Garrett, 71, passed on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gerald was born October 7, 1936 in Des Moines to James and Laverne Garrett. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957. Gerald retired from Armstrong Rubber/Titan Tire in 1996. He attended Grace Community Church and was a member of Moose Lodge. Gerald loved going to Arkansas and fishing but his greatest love was his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his daughters, Nonja (Matt) Karns, Debra (George) Kellogg, Linda (Rick) Johnson and Tonya (Donnie) Cochrane; sister, Judy Bartz; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay Garrett; son, Rick Garrett and his brother, Richard Garrett.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
