Gabriella Newman

Gabriella Newman, 98, died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a vigil service at 5:30 p.m. at Wesley Acres. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Gabriella was born January 23, 1909 to Sophia and Theodore Herman in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy. On August 16, 1947, she married John Newman. She worked at Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator and supervisor. After retiring from there, she owned and operated Newman Antique Shop in Beaverdale. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, and The Rosary Society. Gabriella loved animals and helping and caring for the elderly.
Gabriella is survived by many nieces and nephews; and her dear family friend, Jim Collier. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, John Newman; three brothers and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity, or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
