May 21, 2017
Patricia Schmacker, age 96, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy, West Des Moines, at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
Pat was born February 17, 1921, in Galesburg, Illinois. She moved to Des Moines in 1932, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1939. She married Arthur R. Schmacker in 1941, and they were married just short of 60 years. Together they raised their son, Craig, who now resides in Minneapolis, MN, their daughter, Diane (Forrest) Horn of Columbia, SC, and their son, Alan, who precedes her in death.
Pat leaves behind many dear friends that she gathered from her years at the Iowa State Department of Revenue, The Des Moines Convention Bureau, Zion Lutheran Church, and Scottish Rite Park. She loved people and they, in turn, loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art and her son, Alan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Scottish Rite Park Miller Fund, 2909 Woodland Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312, a mission dear to Pat’s heart.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

So sorry for your loss, Diane. I have fond memories of my Aunt Pat that go back many years to the days of WWll. Three of us lived with Grandma Rose during that time, my mom, your mom and me. Your dad and mine were off fighting a war. They were hard times for our family but we were supportive of each other and had some fun too. Aunt Pat was always so good to me and I loved her very much.

We are so sorry to hear this. Your Mom was so lovely and friendly from the day we started attending Zion in 1973! Please know that we pray for you & your families. Do you suppose she & Gretchen have started entertaining everyone in Heaven in their adorable clown makeup & costumes? ;-) May you rejoice in the beautiful & joyful memories!!

We met Patricia only after we moved to SRP and are glad we had the opportunity to know her. A delightful, smart and friendly woman. She hid her 96 years very well!
