Nile Tannatt
May 19, 2017
Nile, 65, passed away May 19, 2017, surrounded by friends and family. He suffered heart complications while doing what he loved: playing golf with his long-time friends. “Golf is not a matter of life and death, it’s more than that” was a favorite quote he enjoyed.
Nile was born April 28, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Keith and Julia (Warntz) Tannatt. Following graduation from Roosevelt High School and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Nile worked as a regional sales rep for Central Distributors Inc. and as a Pari-Mutuels teller at Prairie Meadows in Altoona.
Nile, an Iowa Hawkeye fan, was known for his sarcastic wit, sense of humor, deep conversations, and love of books, music, and sports. He was a competitive athlete who excelled throughout high school and had a group of life-long buddies he enjoyed hanging out with at the golf course.
Nile found teachable moments valuable, admired inspirational quotes, and “coached” whomever he thought needed that extra boost or guidance (which was usually his son.) Nile also enjoyed many genres of music and loved sharing “new-found” artists with his friends and family. He will always be remembered as a loving and proud father, a big brother, an uncle, and devoted friend.
Nile is survived by his son Tyler Tannatt (Ali), cherished partner Lana Gertsen, sister Kay Tannatt, nephews Forest Weber, Jr. (Charli), and Jordan Weber (Julia), niece Jessica Boyd (Shawn), many cousins, and loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Julia Tannatt and his sister Lynda Boyd.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Sunday, June 4 at the Waveland Golf Course Clubhouse from 5-7 pm.

Nile worked with my family at Van Ginkel's in Des Moines for many years. I remember him as a very kind, happy person-- he was always smiling. I'm so sorry for your loss.

So many great memories of Nile, Ty, and all of the baseball kids and their families during our years coaching and playing with Johnston. Nile had a kind heart and a gentle manner that made him a perfect coaching influence for our boys. Those were cherished days and we feel blessed for the time we had Nile in our lives. Our prayers are with Tyler and Family, and Nile will always be in our memories.
