Service Details

Marjorie Arlene Swan, 76, died in Des Moines on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grand View Lutheran Church, 13th and Hull Avenue. A private family burial will occur at Resthaven Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Marjorie Champ was born May 11th, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa to Ross and Lillian (McDaniel) Champ. She graduated from East High in 1948. Over her life, Marjorie spent countless hours volunteering with the Iowa Brain Injury Association as past President and was the original organizer of the Annual Brain Injury Awareness Walk that is held every October at Gray’s Lake. She served as past President of the Iowa State Police Association Auxiliary and volunteered for this service organization for 36 years. Marjorie and her husband were co-owners of the Kwik Shop at 42nd and Park Avenue for 15 years and were members at Grand View Lutheran Church. She loved people and was a dedicated mother to her handicapped child, friend to all, and lover of life.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Swan; brother, Norlan Champ, daughters, Susan (Kevin) Hartnett and Shellie Boskey, and son, Scott; and six grandchildren; Aimee Mays, Alaina Hartnett, Alex Hartnett, Beau Boskey, Briana Boskey, and Benjamin Boskey. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the central support group of the Iowa Brain Injury Association or Grand View Lutheran Church.
